Thalassa Cup: O’Brien in Doubles Final and Singles Quarter Final
Colin O’Brien and Mathieu Guenat (SUI) have progressed to the finals of the men’s doubles after a 6-4 6-3 win over Nick Cavaday (GBR) and Matthew Illingworth (GBR) in the Thalassa Cup which is taking place in Heraklio, Greece.
This is the third final for the no. 1 seeded duo in the past few weeks. Last week they were winners of the Paros Cup (Greece F3 Futures) after defeating Greek duo Gemouchidis and Glezos with a scoreline 6-7(1) 6-3 [10-3]. They will now play Alexander Sadecky (SUI) and Mikhail Vasiliev (RUS) in the finals this afternoon who will be also hoping for success after reaching the semi finals last weekend in the Paros Cup. Daniel Glancy also competed in the doubles event this week reaching the quarterfinals with partner Burnham Arlidge (GBR).
O’Brien also had success on the singles event yesterday. He played Slovakian, Kocevar-Desman in the second round and has now reached the quarter finals after winning 6-2 6-2. He will play A Falgheri (ITA) this morning. O’Brien will be hoping he can replicate his previous victory over Falgheri as he defeated him in the first round of the Great Britain F14 Futures 6-1 6-1 in September.
