Rachael Dillon Joins Vanderbilt Women’s Tennis Program
Irish player, Rachael Dillon, a two-year member of the California women’s tennis program, has transferred to Vanderbilt to play for the Commodores in the 2009-10 season. “Rachael is an excellent tennis player in all phases of the game and she will make an immediate impact on our team,” head coach Geoff Macdonald said. “We are thrilled she decided to join our program and she will excel both on the court and in the classroom. She was one of the best international players in the country coming out of high school and we know she will be an excellent fit for our program.”
Dillon posted a 22-15 singles record in her two years as a Golden Bear. While competing for Cal-Berkeley, Dillon was a part of two teams that finished ranked No. 2 in the country after finishing as the NCAA team runner-up in consecutive seasons.
As a sophomore, Dillon finished the fall campaign 10-5 in singles and 7-4 in doubles before not competing during the dual season.
As a freshman, Dillon was 12-10 overall in singles play and 2-1 during the dual season. In doubles, Dillon finished with a 17-11 overall record, including a 9-5 mark in dual matches. During the fall, she claimed three wins at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships en route to clinching a spot in the round of 32.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Dillon has valuable international experience, representing Ireland in the Federation Cup from 2005-08. The six-foot tennis standout made her Fed Cup debut in 2005 in Antalya, Turkey.
In 2008, Dillon proved that she was one of the best Irish players when she made the singles finals of the David Lloyd Riverview Irish Tennis Indoors in Dublin’s Clonskeagh.
