17 Apr 25th South of Ireland Open Veterans Championships
Limerick Lawn Tennis Club is welcoming all Vets to the sporting capital of the country for the 25th Annual South of Ireland Open Veteran Tennis Championship on the weekend of April 17-19. From a tournament that began in 1985 with three competitions (Mens, Ladies, & Mixed O/40 Doubles) 25 years ago, it has blossomed into one of the best supported, fun and competitive Vets tournaments in the country. The quarter century renewal is being generously sponsored by the Greenhills Hotel, located close to the Club on the Ennis Road, which is offering very competitive packagesfor the event.
Present at the recent event launch for the tournament was Limerick Lawn veteran stars Deirdre Collins, reigning O/35 Champion of the South of Ireland Open Veterans Tennis Championships and current O/35 Irish Veterans Indoor Champion, and Irish Tennis International, Eugene Mulholland. Also present was Tournament Referee Jim McGann, Limerick Lawn President Gerry Clancy, Vice President Judy McGill, Tennis Captain Daniel O’Leary, General Manager Pat Casey and Tournament Committee Member Fergus Walsh. The Greenhills Group were represented by Hugh and Daphne Green.
The 2009 Championship has 11 Open events and also 6 special doubles events for LLTC members. The Entry form can be downloaded from the Tennis Ireland website below and entries are being accepted up to Tuesday April 14th at 3pm. So a warm welcometo all Vets to come and join us for great tennis, entertainment and camaraderie on the Ennis Road just after Easter.
