Veterans Team Announced for ITF Senior World Team Championhips

The Irish Team has now been announced to travel to the ITF Senior World Team Championships to be held in Spain from the 27th April through to the 2nd of May 2009.

A very popular event with Ireland’s veteran players and this year will be no different as some of Ireland’s top Vets will make the trip to the Balearic island of Mallorca to compete against the top players at this level. With such a large event the tournament is set to be held in no more than eight different venues around the island, all 76 courts available for the week are the Spanish favoured red clay surface.

 

Ireland will be well represented once again at the event and will be sending six teams in five different age categories this year. The teams are as follows:

 

Men’s 55+ Team – Austria Cup (Venue: Tennis Ranch Palma Nova)

Bryan Bailie, Neagle Cathcart (Captain), David Craig and Jimmy Wilson.

 

Men’s 50+ Team – Fred Perry Cup (Venue: Beach Club Font de Sa Cala)

Tom Barry (Captain), Noel Sheridan, Bryan Smith, and Conor Woods.

 

Men’s 45+ Team – Dubler Cup (Venue: Club Protur Sa Coma Resort)

Paul Banks, Des Dillon, Pete Lowther (Captain) and Liam O’Brien

 

Men’s 40+ Team – Tony Trabert Cup (Venue: Canyamel Park Tennis Club)

Tim Blomley, Liam Cassidy (Captain), Niall Murphy and Kevin Noble.

 

Ladies 35+ Team – Suzanne Leglen Cup (Venue: Canyamel Park Tennis Club)

Deirdre Collins, Michelle Hardiman, Lesley O’Halloran (Captain) and Ellen Stuart

 

Men’s 35+ Team – Italia Cup (Venue: Club de Tennis Aguait)

Travis McDonogh, Colm Óg Molloy (Captain), Justin Purcell and David Sweeney.
