27 Feb Ireland Prepare for Algeria at National Tennis Centre
The Irish Davis Cup team have been taking advantage of the indoor clay courts available to them this week at the National Tennis Centre in Dublin City University. The team have been able to get some essential time on the clay in preparation for for their First Round Euro/Africa Zone Group II match with Algeria on the clay courts of the Office du Complexe Olympique Mohamed Boudiaf, in Algiers.
Several of the Irish players have been preparing for the tie by taking part in ATP clay court tournaments in Morocco (Conor Niland, James McGee) and Spain (Colin O’Brien) and have decided to continue with their preparation in Ireland with the remainder of the Senior Squads with the National Tennis Academy in the National Tennis Centre. Irish team captain, Sean Sorensen and the rest of his team travel out to Algeria on Sunday morning and will have four days to get familiar with the surroundings of the 2,000 seater venue.
Ireland will go into the tie with high hopes of win, as this is the first time in several seasons that the Irish could draw on the strongest squad available to them. With all players in the team including reserve team member Barry King all having current ATP rankings, the Irish will certainly feel that they can produce a result in the North African.
Further reports on the Irish team will be available throughout the week on the Tennis Ireland homepage.
