Tennis Europe Winter Cup 2009

Team Ireland begin their Tennis Europe Winter Cup campaign this weekend (February 6th) as Ireland’s U14 Girls team travel to Bree in Belgium for the Qualifying Round of the event. Current Irish No.1 at U-14 level Sinead Lohan will head the team of three with Caroline Lynch and Megan McGreevy also making the trip to Northern Belgium.

Ireland have been drawn in Zone B of the competition with most of Europe’s traditional powerhouses of the game in what will prove to be a very tough weekend for the Irish Girls. Zone B includes the giants of France, Germany, and Spain in the eight team group with Belgium, Netherlands, Slovenia, Luxembourg and Ireland completing the group.

The Irish team will face the Dutch this afternoon in their first tie where they will go on to face either Luxembourg or Germany the following day.

At the end of this weekend the top two teams from Zone B will advance to the Tennis Europe Winter Cup finals in Leeuwarden, Netherlands during the weekend of 20th – 22nd February
