09 Aug Conor Niland Wins $50,000 ATP Challenger
Conor Niland recorded a spectacular win over Czech star Tomas Cakl to record his very first ATP Challenger title on Saturday. the 26 year-old came out on top in the final of the New Delhi Challenger event 6-4, 6-4 to come home with the largest share of the $50,000 prize money on offer. More importantly for Niland the win sees him make a significant jump up the ATP rankings table to a career high of 229 while also breaking through into the top 250 mark for the first time.
Although unseeded for the event Conor recorded some excellent wins on his way to the final including two fine wins over No.1 seed Danai Udomchoke of Thailand in the quarter-final and Brydan Klein of Australia in the semis.
The title win represents a milestone acheivement for the Limerick man and he will be looking to build on this win in what has been a great season so far. Niland has already taken top prize in two ITF futures events in 2008, winning in Bournemouth and Limeirck earlier in the year.
