Tennis Ireland Key Programmes and Activities
-We promote, regulate and administer the sport as the National Governing Body on an all-island basis. This area of work includes, but is not limited to:
-Managing relationships with the Irish Sports Council, the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism and a host of regulatory and voluntary agencies within the Irish sports community.
-Managing a variety of communications programmes with the national tennis community, including the sports media and our various web and print publications.
-Administration of the National Anti-Doping Programme for tennis.
-A tournament sanction and calendar service.
-We select and manage the National Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams and frequently host Davis Cup ties. The 2011 Davis Cup campaign will see us stage ties at home. The first against Luxembourg in March with a possible meeting with Great Britain in July 2011.
-We operate the recently completed National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Dublin. This facility is comprised of 10 courts, providing three training surfaces (acrylic, clay and concrete). Four courts are covered and a further three have a seasonal air-hall cover. The capital cost of the facility is approx. €2.5 million.
-We also operate and manage the National Tennis Academy at the NTC. The Academy is made up of 32 of the best players in the country – 24 juniors and 8 seniors. Some of the juniors are residential and all players have access to the highest standard coaching programmes (6 coaches) strength and conditioning services, fitness facilities, sports psychology, nutrition and physiotherapy services.
-Tennis Ireland provides certified Coaching Courses for affiliated members. We train the coaches who work at your club. Approximately 50 Level 1 coaches will graduate this year.
-We regard the safety of the children in our sport as a top priority. Tennis Ireland’s National Children’s Officer is always available to clubs to provide training and advice in this vital area. Tennis Ireland has a designated National Children's Officer for the past ten years.
-We operate a variety of development initiatives, which are focused on the club and recreational sector in tennis. For the most part these programmes are delivered through Regional Development Officers. These initiatives range from Club Development Programmes through to Mini Tennis Programmes and Provincial Development Squads.
-We also stage a number of events each year, ranging from starter level professional events for men (Futures) through to European ranking events for U14 players and World ranking events for U18 players.
-Tennis Ireland administrative, technical and development staff are available to answer all your queries.
