Director of Tennis Course 2008


Tennis Ireland has developed a  course designed to train Directors of Tennis to fulfil the functions described below. We see the Club Coach as the ideal candidate for this role.


The Role of Director of Tennis;

The Director of Tennis is the person who organises the overall on court tennis programme in a club

  • Hires on court staff
  • Plans designs and schedules all on court programmes.
  • Plans designs and schedules all on court programmes.
  • Evaluates and develops the programmes on an ongoing basis.
A successful Director of Tennis will:
  • Attract new members whilst retaining current members.
  • Develop the full use of the clubs facilities.
  • Generate income for the club.
  • Provide continuity
  • Guarantee cohesion in the implementation of the on court programme by ensuring that all coaches and volunteers are working oin the same principles.

Why appoint a Director of Tennis?

  • Even higher expectations by Irish people regarding service standards in the leisure industry.
  • Difficulty in recruiting volunteers with the requisite skills, experience and free time to fulfill the function.

Identifying a potential Director of Tennis

The ideal candidate for the position is an experienced Tennis Ireland Coach. By definition he or she would have a proven track record and a full understanding of the Tennis Ireland Player Pathway and the ITF Play & Stay Programme.

It would be essential that he or she have computer skills, management experience and be experienced in working with volunteers and committees.

 

Adapting the role to the needs of each club 

Some clubs may require the services of a Director of Tennis on a full time basis. Other clubs may only need someone to carry out this role for a half day per week. The role is completely adaptable to the needs of your club. If your current club coach is under a contractual arrangement it may be possible to incorporate this role into a revised contract.
