Garry Cahill

National Tennis Academy Role: Technical Director

 

Qualifications: Tennis Ireland Level 3 Coach

Birthplace:        Mullingar, Co. Westmeath

 

Garry has been the Technical Director to the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy since its inception in early 2003 and has overseen its growth from a small part-time set-up for players to its current format of full-time and part-time schedules for over thirty players. Before establishing the National Academy Garry had already worked privately with Ireland's top players playing in international tournaments and Belgian National Coach Ivo Van Aken.


Garry is responsible for staff management (coaches, trainers, etc) designing and implementing the overall structure of the programme that is delivered at the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy, scheduling individual player training and competition schedules. Talent Identification for Regional and National Squads is also a major role for Garry as Technical Director, ensuring that the very best players are selected for further development on the National Squad and its Provincial equivalents. As well as all this Garry is also responsible for the on court coaching of Senior squads and U18 boys.

 

 

Johnny McCormack

National Tennis Academy Role: Coach

 

Qualifications: Tennis Ireland Level 2 Coach (Performance)

Birthplace:       Dublin

 

A qualified Tennis Ireland Coach since 1998, Johnny is one of the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy's most experienced and well travelled coaches. He having previously coached in such far-flung places as Sydney Australia (Rawson Park Tennis Centre), and Next Generation Clubs in Edinburgh, Scotland. Irish coaching roles have included periods of time at Donnybrook LTC, Westwood Sports Club in Clontarf, Dublin and Casey Pro Tennis Ltd. in various parts of Dublin.


Johnny has been with the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy since 2006 and his main responsibilities lie with developing the skills of the younger players at U12 and U14 levels and concentrates on the technical and tactical development of his players. Johnny also travels extensively with Academy players and has represented Tennis Ireland as official coach in several Junior ITF and Tennis Europe events including Tennis Europe Summer Cup and European Championships competition. 

 

 

Galina Misiuriova

National Tennis Academy Role: Coach

 

Qualifications:  Tennis Ireland Level 2 Coach (Performance)

Birthplace:         Lithuania

 

Galina has been with the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy since 2005 and came to Ireland as one of Lithuania's top players with a career high WTA ranking of 420, Lithuanian Ladies Champion for several years throughout her playing career and represented Lithuania five times as no.1 team player in Fed Cup between 1990 and 2000. Her playing career extended to Ireland also winning the Lansdowne Ladies Open twice and Sunday's Well Ladies title. She is also the 2005 Danone Irish Masters Runner-up. Galina has been coaching in Ireland since 2002 and before her time with the National Academy was a member of the Co. Wicklow LTC coaching team in Bray.


Galina concentrates on working with the female squad players, mainly with the U12 players and with some players at U18 level. She puts a lot of emphasis on technique and tactical development of players as well as tournament performance. Galina is also a very well travelled coach with Tennis Ireland and has travelled all over Europe with squad members since 2006. Le Petis As in Tarbes, Tennis Europe Championships and various ITF events to name but a few.


 

Josh Mylan

National Tennis Academy Role: Sports Therapist

 

Qualifications: Certificate Sports Message Therapy, Institute of Physical Therapy

                   NCEHS Personal Trainer, National Training Centre

                   B.Sc. Atheltic Therapy & Training, Dublin City University

Birthplace:        United States

 

Josh has been involved with Tennis Ireland as Sports Therapist to the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy since 2007 and has extensive experience working with some of Ireland's top athletes. Having worked as Sports Therapist within several team sports including Rugby League (Irish A National Team), Soccer (FAI Emerging Talent Squads - U18, U16, U14) and GAA (Kilmacud Crokes Senior Squad, DCU Sigerson Cup Squad). Josh can offer a wealth of experience in dealing with BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy injuries.


Josh's main role is dealing with Player Injury Prevention and devises prevention plans specific for each Academy player and their training programme. Injury assesment is also a major role for him and monitoring the cause of an injury and diagnosis is essential. At the National Tennis Centre Josh also monitors treatment rehabilitation and musculoskeletal injuries.

 

 

Kevin O'Brien

National Tennis Academy Role: Strength & Conditioning Coach

 

Qualifications: B.Sc of Sports Science & Health, Dublin City University

                      Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, N.S.C.A

Birthplace:        Carlow

 

Kevin has been with the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy since 2007 and is responsible for all the players fitness, strength and conditioning training at the National Tennis Centre.  The Strength & Conditioning Coach co-ordinates all individual player programmes monitoring all aspects of strength and fitness including speed, agility, power, and co-ordination using on-court activities and the world class facilties at Dublin City University Sports Club.

 

 

 

 

Conor Taylor

National Tennis Academy Role: Coach

 

Qualifications: Tennis Ireland Level 1 Coach

                      M.A. Liberal Arts, North Carolina (U.S.A.)

                      B.Bs Business Studies, Dublin City University 

Birthplace:        Dublin

 

Conor has been with the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy since 2008 and is our newest addition to the coaching staff. Still an accomplished player, Conor has represented Ireland on three occasion at Senior Four Nations Level. During his time in the U.S. Conor was North Carolina State's No.1 player and was ranked as high as 36 on the US College circuit. Conor's coaching career began with well-known Coach Joe O'Dwyer in Fairhope, Alabama where Conor had the opportunity to work with touring professionals on-court including the likes of James McGee and Conor Niland. In Ireland he has also worked in top clubs such as Carrickmines C&LTC and Fitzwilliam LTC


At the BNP Paribas National Tennis Centre Conor works with both the Junior and Senior players mainly working with them during on-court sessions monitoring players tactical awareness. Like most of the other National Tennis Academy Conor has been a travelling coach with the Academy, Tenerife, Andorra, Zagreb and Hamburg are all events which Conor has represented Tennis Ireland as official coach.
